TuGraph
maintenanceby Ant Group · since 2022 · also known as TuGraph-DB
Ant Group's open-source C++ graph database with ACID transactions, Cypher and LDBC-record performance.
maintenance. No release since 4.5.2 (Mar 2025); 2026 commits are documentation-only.
Overview
TuGraph-DB is an open-source labeled property-graph database from Ant Group, written in C++ and used internally for financial risk and relationship workloads. It offers serializable ACID transactions, openCypher, full-text and secondary indexes, embedded graph algorithms and stored procedures in C++ or Python, and it held the LDBC SNB benchmark record in 2022. The 4.5 line added a Bolt-protocol cluster mode. Activity has slowed: the last release is 4.5.2 from March 2025 and 2026 commits are documentation only, so evaluate support options before adopting it.
Strengths & trade-offs
Strengths
- +Serializable ACID transactions with fast single-node traversal
- +Former LDBC SNB Interactive benchmark record holder
- +C++ and Python stored procedures plus built-in analytics algorithms
- +Bolt protocol lets standard Neo4j drivers connect
Trade-offs
- −Development has slowed sharply since early 2025
- −Linux-only builds and documentation partly in Chinese
- −No sharding for graphs beyond one machine
Great for
- +Financial risk and anti-fraud graphs
- +Single-node high-performance graph workloads
- +Benchmarking and research
Think twice for
- −Teams needing an actively developed roadmap
- −Distributed graphs
- −RDF/SPARQL workloads

Is TuGraph open source?
Yes. TuGraph is open source. License: Apache License 2.0.
Does TuGraph support ACID transactions?
Yes. TuGraph supports full ACID transactions, with strong consistency.
Does TuGraph scale horizontally?
TuGraph does not scale horizontally; it runs on a single node, so you scale it up rather than out. It is comfortable at medium scale (≤ 10 TB).
How can I run TuGraph?
You can self-host it. It is available on Alibaba Cloud.
What is TuGraph best for?
TuGraph is a strong fit for financial risk and anti-fraud graphs; single-node high-performance graph workloads; and benchmarking and research. Think twice for teams needing an actively developed roadmap.
What are the best alternatives to TuGraph?
Common alternatives to TuGraph include Neo4j, Memgraph, NebulaGraph, Apache HugeGraph and Galaxybase. The right choice depends on your workload, scale and hosting; WhichDB's smart match ranks them against your requirements.
Is TuGraph still maintained?
TuGraph is in maintenance mode. No release since 4.5.2 (Mar 2025); 2026 commits are documentation-only.
How popular is TuGraph?
TuGraph ranks #341 of 844 databases on the WhichDB Score (7.6/100), and #27 among graph databases. The score combines public adoption signals such as package downloads, GitHub activity, job posts and developer discussion.
