Redis Cloud
activeby Redis Ltd. · since 2013 · also known as Redis Enterprise Cloud
Redis Ltd.'s own managed Redis on AWS, Azure and GCP, with Active-Active geo-replication and tiering.
Overview
Redis Cloud is the managed service run by Redis Ltd., the company behind Redis, built on Redis Software (Enterprise). It offers a free 30 MB database, shared Essentials plans from about $5 per month, and dedicated Pro deployments with Active-Active CRDT-based multi-region replication, auto-tiering of cold data to SSD (Redis Flex), private connectivity and up to 99.999% availability. It is the place where Redis's newest features (search, vectors, JSON, time series) land first, available in all three hyperscalers' regions and marketplaces.
Strengths & trade-offs
Strengths
- +Newest Redis features first, operated by the Redis core team
- +Active-Active CRDT replication for multi-region writes
- +Redis Flex tiers cold data to SSD for lower cost
- +Runs on AWS, Azure and GCP with marketplace billing
Trade-offs
- −Pro plans have a $200/month minimum
- −Proprietary service; Active-Active semantics are Redis-specific
- −Costs rise quickly with large in-memory datasets
Great for
- +Global session stores and leaderboards with multi-region writes
- +Vector search and semantic caching for AI apps
- +Managed caching across multiple clouds
Think twice for
- −Teams standardising on Valkey for licensing reasons
- −Very cost-sensitive hobby workloads beyond the free tier

redis-cloud vs redis →Microsoft's managed Redis built on Redis Enterprise, replacing the retiring Azure Cache for Redis.
redis-cloud vs azure-cache-for-redis →AWS's managed Valkey, Redis OSS and Memcached service, provisioned or serverless.
redis-cloud vs amazon-elasticache →Serverless, per-request-priced Redis with an HTTP API built for edge and serverless functions.
redis-cloud vs upstash →Google Cloud's managed in-memory family: Valkey, Redis, Redis Cluster and Memcached.
redis-cloud vs google-memorystore →A multi-threaded, shared-nothing in-memory store that speaks Redis and Memcached on one big box.

What is Redis Cloud?
Redis Cloud is a key-value database by Redis Ltd., first released in 2013.
Is Redis Cloud open source?
No. Redis Cloud is proprietary, closed-source software. License: Redis Cloud service terms.
Does Redis Cloud support ACID transactions?
Partly. Redis Cloud offers limited ACID guarantees (for example, single-record or single-partition transactions), with eventual, causal consistency.
Does Redis Cloud scale horizontally?
Redis Cloud scales horizontally out of the box, with built-in sharding or partitioning. It is comfortable at large scale (≤ 1 PB). It supports active-active multi-region writes.
How can I run Redis Cloud?
You can use the vendor's managed cloud. It is available on AWS, Google Cloud and Azure.
What is Redis Cloud best for?
Redis Cloud is a strong fit for global session stores and leaderboards with multi-region writes; vector search and semantic caching for AI apps; and managed caching across multiple clouds. Think twice for teams standardising on Valkey for licensing reasons.
What are the best alternatives to Redis Cloud?
Common alternatives to Redis Cloud include Redis, Azure Managed Redis, Amazon ElastiCache, Upstash and Google Cloud Memorystore. The right choice depends on your workload, scale and hosting; WhichDB's smart match ranks them against your requirements.
How popular is Redis Cloud?
Redis Cloud ranks #529 of 844 databases on the WhichDB Score (1.6/100), and #84 among key-value databases. The score combines public adoption signals such as package downloads, GitHub activity, job posts and developer discussion.
